So yesterday I was in the
Dragon's Lair comic store, not because it was New Comics day (because it was delayed this week because of Labor Day), but because I wanted to stare at artwork (I am attempting to absorb inking techniques into my neurons, as research for some upcoming drawing projects), and because I wanted to give the owner, David Wheeler (no relation) a couple of copies of
my movie, the first scene of which (the famous scene with the sheep, or perhaps the scene with the famous sheep) was filmed at David and Tara Wheeler's ranch.
That was so long ago they don't even live on that same ranch any more. But somehow, I'd never given them a copy of the DVD, even having had nearly two years to do so. Yet when I was in the store a week ago, David Wheeler brought the subject up by saying, "By the way, my wife was really pleased that you
entered her into the Internet Movie Database." He then went on to say that he used this to cheer her up when she was having a bad day recently. "Come take a look at this!" he said, and loaded the page. Bad mood changed to good!
"She's now officially part of the Movie Universe," I said, nodding.
"That's right!" he said happily.
Cool, and thus I promised to bring him a copy of the DVD. Or two, one for him and Tara, and another for Dragon's Lair to put on its video rental shelf. So now that and
Vulcan Video are the two places my movie is available for rent.
Speaking of Vulcan Video, time to watch the movies I just rented there. I am studiously watching all of the Ingmar Bergman films I never watched but always meant to. This week: Scenes From a Marriage (Criterion) and Saraband. I should be writing about these as I watch them, but I've already watched Wild Strawberries, Fanny and Alexander, Smiles of a Summer Night, Persona, and two documentaries about Bergman without typing a single word. I think I'll wait until I finish watching stuff and then write some kind of summary.
ETA: Oh yeah! I forgot to mention the other thing that happened while I was in the store.
So this 14 year old kid accosts me and says, "Okay I'm asking everyone in the store this question. Who do you think would win in a fight, Phil Collins or Neil Diamond?" I thought about it for a few moments, and then said with conviction, "Neil Diamond." I think the kid said it was running 4 votes for Neil and 3 for Phil at that point. I still think I'm right, though.
