Furniture

Can't afford (or don't want to afford) the mid century furniture I covet, but the Salvation Army is keeping us stocked with decent 50s-70s mid-century styled pieces so no complaints. Most of it is mainstream US label interpretations of Danish pieces, but overall not bad. Or my taste is suffering...

So, these two pieces are bought and waiting for pick-up. Cheap as dirt and damn good condition (esp. the sideboard).

Hooker "Mainline" series dresser
Solid wood, although I'd suspect some veneer - no formica. Light drawers but the frame is very heavy (much more than I thought). Divided top drawer. Some wear from the drawers rubbing. "old smoking lady" smell oddly just in one drawer. Needs legs tightened. Hollow back pulls which are disappointing, although the design makes up for it.

Basset sideboard
Strange proto 70s detailing on the doors that's grown on me. Divided top drawer for linens and cutlery. No real bad smells. No damage that we could find - very clean and nice. Waaaay marked down.

This one's still available. Not marked down yet.

Small sideboard
Cool doors - shelf behind one, open space (good for vases) behind the other. Nice leg design and drawers. Some noticeable scratches, etc... Formica top (if it wasn't for the damage and the formica we would have gotten this instead). Available: $140

----------------------------------------------

This one sold -- it's gone. Neat design to the upper door glass (bubble). Poor design to the lower case / drawers. Too much damage to the veneer / solid wood to make it worth while. Smelled like an old lady moved in to the piece and smoked 100 cartons of cigs. Ick.

Lastly, a once-cool breakfront that's seen better days. Refinished poorly. No glass. Chipped, damaged, and sad. But once was a really cool design.
