Went to the zoo today - was supposed to meet family there, but the greater group balked at the rain. What? It's just a light rain, and we had planned for it, so we just kept going! Besides, the zoo rules when there are only maybe 30 cars in the parking lot - you get the place all to yourself! Items of note:
- It is rather disconcerting when a full-grown male lion in full beard notices you're there. Even if you're separated from him by an empty moat and a big wall, it's a bit uncomfortable. We looked at the lion and then walked away a bit... and the lion got up and followed us. So we went back to look some more, and he held eye contact. He was definitely looking at us, the only people there. I'm hoping he wasn't marking us as easy targets, somehow separated, baby and mom, from the rest of the pack here in the rain. He just watched us and wondered how useful of a weapon that big black umbrella really would be, and whether we could outrun him with that stroller-thing. Boy, that lion is big.
- Hudson the polar bear is only about 20 days younger than my baby. But he's much much bigger. In other notes, polar bear Knut's first trainer/adopted parent died this week. Poor Knut.
- Quinn can say "duck". I'm pretty sure he said it on purpose, because he repeated me over and over again. And yes, it wasn't actually "duck," it was more like "Du-!" but I'm taking it as a possible first word.
- And then it got dark and started raining locusts and so we came home.
