Just because it's late November doesn't mean the election is over.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, ELECTION '08!

If I lived in Anoka County, I might pretend this ballot were mine. I especially like the Joker-esque HA HA HA HA at the end, even though I'm not terribly fond of Nick DiPaolo. (I wonder how long they waited in line to fill out that ballot?) Alas, I live in Sherburne, where the recount has yet to begin. And I filled out my ballot all correctly and boring, so my vote won't be on teevee being dissected by Chris Matthews.

After seeing some of the challenged ballots, I hope I can be forgiven for that moment I spent thinking this was real, too.

Both candidates, of course, are handling this recount like total grown-ups.

Ha ha, just kidding. Part of it is that MN law is really lax in its voter interpretation laws. If you can tell the voter's intent, it counts.

Sooo Franken wants voter information on absentee ballots that were thrown out, so he can go to their home and find out what their intent really was. That sounds like a super precedent that needs to be set!

Coleman is challenging ballots that voted McCain/Franken, because obviously if they voted for McCain, they meant to vote for Coleman, despite the bubble being filled in perfectly for Franken. (Video made by the Franken team.) (I can imagine two reasons for this happening other than that pesky "free will/voting for the person" thing: McCain and Franken both in Washington would be amusing--reality show, anyone?--or people who would have voted Obama but knew he'd win anyway, so they threw McCain a bone.) They challenged ballots where McCain was their vote for POTUS, but there was no senatorial choice made for similar reasons.

If that's the precedence they're pushing for, I say we just take the party line, and Franken won the state 54/44, just like Obama did... Recount over, problem solved.

It's a logical conclusion, OK.
