"Heads up!"

I went to Upsala yesterday, which is about 50 miles away. Funny thing, I was watching CNN Friday and they said "83 million Americans will travel fifty or more miles this weekend", and I was just planning to go to my parents, so I was all, "Okay, crazy people." but then I became one of them.

A few friends camped up there for the weekend, and they invited me up for the evening. We were walking to their site and passed a Morrison County Trooper's car. We waved, and someone noticed he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. I said, kind of loudly, "Hey, click it or ticket, buddy." They admonished me, because he had his window open. I look behind me and go "omg, he's turning around". The rest of them turn around, looking panicked, to which I follow up with, "gotcha."

We played several games of volleyball, which I haven't played in oh, forever. I've got bruises all up and down my forearms, and I thought I'd broken my right wrist for about five minutes there toward the end. We kept playing even after it got pretty dark, to the point where people didn't know the ball was coming for them until it landed in front of them.

Then we went back and made s'mores. Since we had like, a dozen little people, they got first dibs on the good stuff. I also got deep-fried fresh fish, mmm mmm.

The drive back was perilous. I was a moron and didn't fill up on the way, so I was holding my breath on the drive back, looking for a place that would either be open or have pay at the pump before I ran out of gas. Since Upsala is approximately in the middle of nowhere with a population of 400, and it was a bit before midnight, I had to go about 20 miles to the freeway to find such a place. I thought I had a fourteen gallon gas tank, but I guess I have fifteen because I put in 14.1 gallons yesterday.

Anyway, the moral of the story is Deep Woods Off ftw. I am mosquito-bite free, even after six hours sweating outside near a lake while and after the sun set.

Will be going to the 'rents shortly. The washer and dryer here have both punked out so I will be bringing my bedding with me.
