Coraline was pretty good.

I saw 'Coraline' in 3D on Friday night, and it was pretty good. The 3D was *really* good without being too much (and only a very few gimmicky "point something at the watcher's face!!" moments). The score was *perfect* -- that is a soundtrack I shall be buying. In preparation for the movie, I bought the book for Rayni. I finished it last week and she the week before. There were a lot of changes in the movie that I really didn't like, but I am able to look past that and see what lies beneath. I think the book was scarier, but I'm kind of a wuss.

I got a computer set up for Zeta Gundam Weekend. I've been fiddling with it for a while, but over the weekend I finally drilled the holes in the floor and ran all of the cabling. The computer will transition into a full Media Computer eventually, but at the moment that's not necessary. I'm hoping to use an external 5.25" enclosure for my region free DVD drive so I can again watch my Australian DVDs -- it should work; I just need to set everything up and find out.

A bonus to the media box is that I was able to get my Hori Wii Arcade Stick to talk to that computer via Bluetooth. Obviously this means a future full of MAME awesomeness, but what it meant last night was Killer Instinct 2.

If I have not mentioned before (though I expect that I have), Killer Instinct 2 is my favorite fighting game of all time. (Actually, I have mentioned it on my profile page, not that I expect everyone to have memorized it or anything.) I played the hell out of it at Q-Zar with Patrick and Damon and we all got pretty good at it. The fighting system *is* complex, but I feel that it is not hard to understand. The timing is totally different from, say, Garou, so last night when I fired up KI2 (after the squeals of joy), I proceeded to fuck up my pop-up uppercuts with Paula Abdul Kim Wi repeatedly. By the end of the hour, though, I pulled off her 36-hit ultra combo. There could be more hits, but I need to use a super-linker for that, which is tough to do. Okay, I will shut up now.

Overall, I'm pleased with the ease with which this computer has gone together. Zero configuration was required to connect it to the TV and XBMC *just works* for the Zeta Gundam .mkv files. Actually, Windows Media Center would handle them too if Haali would update his splitter for Windows 7. But since it's only beta software, I don't blame him.

Now that I have a full computer connected to my TV, I can use Hulu to watch whatever show I want. Maybe I really will disconnect my Comcast this time...
