today was the books/fees day for the senior students in my school. its the day where students buy books (legally from the bookstore) and illegally sell them [according to school rules we are not supposed to sell second hand books in the school compound...but do we listen...NO! (obviously)] . since i'm done with school...all i had to do was just sell stuff. i had to go there to get rid of my alevel books/ papers plus some other texts from previous years. i unfortunately had my brother's physics and chem stuff to get rid off as well. that 'nice' bro of mine nicely dumped all his stuff into this box..since he's studying in manipal at the moment... i had to do all the sorting and selling. luckily i did the sorting a year ago...so there wasnt any last minute business
selling stuff is such a hard thing to do...no one wants to buy second hand stuff. plus u had the security guard and mr dsouza, our assitant head principle, going around sayin "no selling in the school and church compound". thank God sr daniella wasnt around where i was standing...she would have started yelling. you wouldnt want to be around when she yells. lots of ppl nicely goto the bookstore to get their books. if only they got stuff from us at throwaway prices. another hurdle : most of the books in the lower classes have changed...and i couldnt sell any of my lower classes books..coz they werent required anymore.
there were some nuts out there blindly buying stuff. like this a-level first year guy who is doing pure math this year. he had just finished olevels at our school. he got these books from the school bookshop : C1, C2 , C3, C4, P1 and P2. P1 and P2 are like the older versions of C1, C2, C3 and C4 which are not used in school anymore. it looked brand new...so he must have got them at the bookshop at dhs80 each...i told him that he was supposed to get P4 and P5 instead (which was according to the booklist). that dumb nut was like..."no problem... i dont care...i can always return it....mr paul can help me." i wonder if he read that lil note at the bottom of every booklist...BOOKS ONCE SOLD CANNOT BE RETURNED/EXCHANGED. tsk tsk
last month, eva gave my details to a friend of hers...she wanted my maths stuff for her son. i had already sold her c1 and c2 books earlier. today she calls me up to ask about the rest of the maths stuff. unfortunately i had already sold them to rovina. so she gives me her son's cell no and tells me to find my friend who would sell maths books to him. i found fiona who called him...that nut gave her this directions : i'm wearing a black and white shirt and i'm right next to the hall. there were many guys in black and white shirts and we couldnt find him. tsk tsk ...guys...useless
after all that baking in the sun/selling i managed to scramble Dhs. 225. it isnt much i know. but i'm happy i got some pocket money and some extra space in the house. i got rid of all my alevel stuff at throwaway prices. i sold my c3, c4, fp1 and fp2 books to rovina at dhs 40 each and i gave p1 for free. yes. yes. buy 4 get one free :) i also gave away a whole bag full of chem and physics papers/ photocopied books at dhs20 each. i showed the stuff to christopher, my classmate. he picks up each module and says " u can sell this at 20 bucks". he picks up a lil textbook and he said, " this thing is 90 something bucks!" and i sold the whole bag for 20 bucks!!! i didnt care about its worth coz first of all it was my bro's stuff and second of all i wanted to get out of there asap.
there are still books lying here...i want to donate them to some charity centre...but i dont know whether it would work out eventually
by the time i got home...my right ear was blocked for a while..i wonder why that happened...maybe the heat got into me. :S now its perfectly fine
i heard from siobhan that the clinic in our school takes in old school uniforms as donations. this would benefit students who cannot such stuff. the uniforms have to be washed and ironed and given to the clinic. i would wanna do that. my old uniforms are washed. just me too lazy to iron them
