Odd numbered years always suck. But there were good moments too. It has been a very energy draining time. To compensate, I've spent most of my free time either sleeping, reading or playing & replaying Zuma.
Just the thought of being on a computer at home & doing anything besides mindless reading or playing Zuma makes me tired. I've withdrawn from pretty much everywhere. No internet, no writing, no trips to Jewel Book Club and no rides. Vic's gone on a few rides, but I've chosen to stay home. I haven't even been writing--or editing.
I know that sounds like depression -- but I am NOT depressed. (been there, done that & know what it feels like) I still enjoy things -- lots of things. I just find it tiring to 'deal' with people outside a very select few. There are a handful of you that I really, really miss. I am going to try harder to stay connected here -- just so ya'll know that I haven't disappeared from the face of the Earth.
As most of you know, Nancy had a major heart attack in February. I have difficulty calling that bad, because on that same day -- a coworker's husband and 1 of my agents died of heart attacks. (3 on the same day is just so weird) So I count it as a good thing that she's recovered and at home!
That has caused some major changes in our household, but most have been good -- and some quite laughable. In addition, it's uncovered one of Vic's hidden talent...I don't think I'm supposed to say -- but it involves a kitchen stove, seasonings and food. :)
In November, I had a pretty bad accident. I'm fine, but my beloved 1998 Hyundai Accent with over 104,000 miles on it -- not so much. The insurance company totaled it. I could buy a new car, but I really wanted MY car back. So we purchased back the salvage and had it repaired. Of course now it's tri-colored...but I don't see any need to paint it. I could care less what people think. Also, they assume I don't have insurance, so they stay FAR away from me. LOL
Recently, I rediscovered the local Library. Wow -- things have changed a lot since I first got my library card in Richardson. (Where'd the microfiche go?) I had to keep going to the info desk. Of course, being able to read 4 or 5 books a week was worth feeling stupid. The only drawback is that they carry NO lesfic.
I've discovered a love of Dystopian Sci-fi. Most of the good stuff I've found is in the Young Adult section. That would be the one with the big sign over the entry door: "Teens Only." The lady at the info desk looked at me a little strangely but after I told her the names/titles I was looking for, no one gave me any problems.
I checked the adult sci-fi section, but, other than StarTrek books, they are all very intensive sci-fi. I don't care about the mechanics of a ship slipping faster than light -- I just want to find out what happens in the storyline. I found a few Dystopian ones this time, so I'll see if they are better.
If anyone knows of any good Dystopian fiction, I'd love suggestions. I've gone through the Hunger Games Trilogy, all 4 books of the Ugglies Trilogy (yes 4) and "Unwind" suggested by Layce Gardner. Plus a few other, not so good, but easy reads.
