Okay, so for anyone who HASN'T seen COLVERFIELD,
I just watched CLOVERFIELD... I can tell where they used a movie grade action camera, which has a balance on the inside to get rid of unnecessary shaking, which is good, because most of the movie is a freakin' earthquake! All I can say is WTF?! I think it delivered what was expected... the monster didn't look stupid as all hell, and it was convincing, but of course, obvious plot devices, but you kinda need them. You can tell when people are safe, and you can tell when it's time for some turmoil... Um... the model es'ploded! WTF?!
All in all it wasn't bad... Kinda made me nauseous at times, blood splatters added with rapid camera motion.
Okay... so survivability in a situation like that...
First off, RUN BITCH RUN! The likelihood of surviving a situation in which a giant monster is taking out the town is slim to none... especially if it has little ravenous spawn! Of course, if a Giant Monster were to go on a rampage, there'd probably be more, or in the near future definite replication. So you're gonna die anyway, so get to the most removed location you can. It's like a Zombie movie... Don't hide in a building in the middle of the trouble, get AWAY from it. You're more likely to survive if you just get AWAY!
Now, as for bleeding. If you get a bad wound and it's bleeding, you've got to stem the flow of blood, and keep your heart rate low, otherwise you're gonna cycle enough blood out of your system to cause dizziness, fatigue, and eventually death. So in the case of the Model, she had some BAD punctures down her back and front, I'm surprised she lasted long enough to es'plode! Though interesting as that was, it kinda makes you wonder... what was it in the bite that made her do that... was it like baking soda and vinegar hitting critical... spontaneous combustion.
Now for the girlfriend... 5 hours with a re-bar through your chest... True she was motionless, and reserved her energy, but her lung would have been filling up with blood, if not while she was laying, certainly once she was pulled from it (eeewwww) and on her feet running. Even if they'd made it out of the city, I didn't give her much of a chance.
But think, the one friend potentially made it out! We have a survivor... She made it out on that first Helicopter. I'd say that was some pretty damn good timing. But the likelihood of the CLOVERFILED Monster, after sustaining a big injury like it did, suddenly reaching up and grabbing hold of a hellicopter like that, and taking it down, with visual impairment of that kind of smoke, it's again, highly unlikely. But since it's a plot device, I'll forgive it.
The structure of the story was sort of obvious at times but certainly keeps you going. Though I must say, for under 90 minutes, it kinda dragged. And I'm not even talking about the 20 minutes of character introduction and development which could have been taken down to 10-15 minutes.
Oh well, kinda tired, and brain-meats are not wanting to work anymore.
