Summary: It's a modest place, but it's his.
It's a modest place, but it's his. 1LDK he chose together with Uruha. Two indecisive Geminis hunched over a big yellow-pages-like tome full of hundreds of pages with ground floors or second floors, many floors, different partitions, a variety of combinations - where does the sun rise? Is there enough light here, Uruha, what do you think? Well, what do you want to see when you wake up in the morning? I don't have enough money for these kinds of things, Uruha. Oh, but what about this one? Too close to the center; expensive. Oh my god, where is this one? I don't even think I know this part of Tokyo. Will you be able to visit me easily? Shit and it's all about money...
Six months have passed since he moved in and spend the first night alone (Uruha stayed with him the first three days). Now the walls closing the space around him are his friends and every corner is filled with Japanese junk every Japanese person owns. It's all that and the washing machine he bought out of his own money, the old fridge Aoi gave away to him (Aoi made it look cheap and unimportant, but Reita always guessed that Aoi actually paid for it), a heater and a brand new rice cooker.
Next door there's a three story narrow building. On Thursday's the neighboring tattooed chick flashes her tits at him in the morning. It's a routine Reita enjoys. Aoi sometimes comes to visit, bluntly announcing he wanna meet that pair of tits himself.
Every three days or so Reita does his laundry and stays in his boxers and white wife beater in front of the sink, splashing water around on the tiles on the floor while he's scrubbing and rubbing on the sensitive fabrics of the shirts he wants to still be able to keep, hands deep shoved in bubbly water.
It's a modest place and when he brings Ruki the first time, Ruki has short hair and jeans cut at the knees with a jacket to pair that up that makes Reita think of a certain Sid, but this one isn't vicious.
Ruki says, I don't know what I'm doing. He makes a pause, then adds, do you?
With what?
I don't even know how to write lyrics. What do people write about?
Write about love. That's what people do.
Tell me that everything will be ok.
I have a condom. It's in my pocket.

In the morning Ruki almost burns rice in a pan. They eat some sea weed and surimi salad leftovers thatReita had in the fridge. Later Uruha drops by and they all watch a movie together and Reita leaves Ruki alone with Uruha to get along better and to bond and shit like that. Uruha is not blind.
Later all three of them get drunk and paint silly dreams about future and Uruha says, wait up, and brings Reita's crappy bass so he can pinch some chords and make it all the more real.
What do you think about this guy, Yune?
I don't think we're gonna last long like this.
Ruki wants to know Aoi's opinion. Aoi is older, Aoi is supposed to know shit. The shit they know.
Aoi is in his late shift break and grumpy and barely hearing what they're saying through the phone and cursing and cursing in Mie dialect and what the fuck, man, talk Japanese.
Nothing looks good, no future, no gods to come down and show them their way.
Ruki fucks Reita. That's not a nice word. Fucking. But they're both boys and not really mannered around each other, not the way they would be to a girl at least. They understand each other and their own bodies and how they work and every last bit of selfishness behind every move and thrust and just a lil' bit, Reita, please.
The next time Aoi meets with Reita is before everyone else comes to the smallest rehearsal room they could ever find in Tokyo before. It's a nine square meters space this dude owns through his parents. It's cold and the only heat comes from an AC. The drum kit looks huge compared to the dimensions of the place and they're both making lousy jokes about how Yune’ll be bleeding their ears out. While Reita tunes his bass, Aoi calls at one point and the next thing he knows he wakes up with a pack of condoms colliding with his fret, and then falling on the ground. Never forget about safety, Aoi tells him.
Aoi knows, he tells Ruki with a straight face.
I know. Ruki resumes unlocking Reita's door.
To Reita Ruki feels particularly good against his skin that night. It's fear of losing something you already attached yourself too much to. Reita doesn't like this feeling. But Ruki's skin is a warm cover that gives protection and understanding, it is a subject of stimulation, thought and dialogue. Small body carrying the perfume of Reita's cheap washing powder from the sheets, stretched, slippery skin under his fingers, cock rubbing against Reita's belly whenever he goes in and out of him.

Who was that?
New guy.
Don't like him.
Reita gives Uruha the look.
Dude doesn't even know to salute properly. And he smiles too much.
Reita laughs. That's something they approve together about new guy, about this Kai.
It will have to do, Ruki says when he enters the room.

On the day they're signed to PSC there's a small earthquake. There's a shaky Ruki and his eyes glistening a little bit too much and Reita thinking he's gonna see him cry and yes, Ruki is crying, and it's fucking awkward man, and so he cries too and what a mess, what a mess, but, we made it, Reita, we made it.
