The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Written from three different character perspectives, two black maids and one white society young woman, the story begins in 1963 in Jackson, Mississippi. On the eve of the civil rights movement, these three women defy the current culture and risk everything to tell their stories of what it is like for a black woman raising the children of a white family.
I fell in love with the book from the first sentence. The audio version is read by four different perfectly voiced narrators, that bring this beautifully written novel to life so lovingly. There is no doubt the author has written this from her heart; though this is confirmed by an "author speaks" segment from audible.com titled, "Too Little, Too Late". This is not a short book, but one that I didn't want to end. It is truly delicious.
