About Frigging Time:
The new Secretary of Agriculture is calling for changing the focus of USDA away from ‘anything the regulated community wants’ to serving the consumer of the food. I’ll believe it when I see it, considering USDA’s past track record on meat and poultry inspection in particular (my mom was a very conscientious inspector for 30 years and retired out of disgust with the way things were being handled).
And for you Canadians, that sort of non-inspection plan is being put forward by your government…and an Oklahoma firm is doing a Chili recall because of pebbles and stones in the chili. Good God.
In allied news, apparently staff at USDA’s vet lab in Ames, Iowa, were using vet credentials to pick up prescription drugs for family members.
