my first night as Charge Nurse on my own was Sunday and it was hell! (charge means I pretty much run the entire unit-staffing, new adm
the day shift left TONS of shit for us to do! most the patients were new admissions-which means tons of test etc. everyone was psycho busy- and I had 3 patients of my own and was helping everyone on the floor. just when we thought there was a light at the end of the tunnel (which reminds me of my fav song- No Leaf Clover)- WHABAM! a code- the patient ended up having a stroke- and going to ICU. it was like a battlefield that nite.
the next night I worked-Karis tried to get me to be charge again. I told her "if you ever want me to be charge again-you;ll leave me the hell alone tonite". thursday when I came it- I'm in charge. well shit, i did just ask for one day.... well that night ran a little better except we had a hospice patient pass away then had a RAP which is like a pre-code. and sent a pt to ICU. so I think there's a theme here: Jessie has bad karma as a Charge Nurse.
oh well I'll live. it's a new challege, and more money, and looks damn good on a resume.
