So I got my financial aid check this week in the mail. It was a couple hundred pounds (ie, British £) more than I had budgeted for. So did I do the responsible thing and pay a little extra off on my $800 worth of credit card debt this month? Or put it in my savings account? NO. Because I'm Justin and I love fancy things. That and my newest hobby is expensive: Photography. So instead of doing something sensible or reasonable, I bought this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/300467-USA/Nikon_4801_SB_800_Speedlight.html It's beautiful and Nikon's best flash. It can be controlled remotely from my camera! ie, it does NOT have to be on the camera so I can set it up anywhere I want to get just the right angle of lighting I desire. I was looking at it today in a camera shop discussing with the clerk why it was better than the $150 cheaper alternative. At first, I wasn't convinced, and $150 is a lot. But he kept going over the list of benefits and it just seemed to be exactly what I need (especially for my archaeological photography). The wireless function is going to be very, very useful. And of course, I have expanded my arsenal of camera equipment, which makes me happy. 1 step closer to being a real "amateur photographer" instead of a schmuck with a nice camera.
I'll just consider it my Valentine's and (very soon) Birthday present to my self.
yay me! :)
