"Today we celebrate our Independence Day!" -President, 'ID4'

What a great movie.

Today, in 1776, the American colonies declared their independence from England and the tyrannical, oppressive King George. Don't get me wrong, I love England. I love living there, it's a great place. But it's not home.

Also, some people are surprised to find that I am patriotic. Mostly because I HATE the Bush Administration. I have even said that if the Republicans win the election 2008, I'm going to seek political asylum in the UK. But despite my detesting of the current administration, I am patriotic. I am very patriotic. I have 2 versions of the American flag--one hanging in my parents' house in Los Banos (it's the 1776 flag) and one that used to hang in my apartment in Berkeley (the modern flag with the image of a Native American superimposed over it). I am patriotic. I believe very much in the ideals set forth by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the the United States of America. I believe in the ideals of this country and its foundation. I do, however, believe men are corruptible and evil and lately it has NOT been a nation true to its heritage.

But things change. And hopefully they will change back. And so today I still celebrate. Today I am still proud to be an American. And a liberal Democrat from San Francisco, California at that! ;)

Happy 4th of July!
