look on my works ye mighty

One thing i noticed while watching Watchmen and noting the poor performance of Ozymandias' actor is that we don't really see anything from Veidt's background in the comic.  We see into the history and evolution of every other major character (except maybe Dan, but he's kind of the everyman).  We never actually see his childhood, how he became a superhero, or anything like that.  All we get is his memory of trying to form the New Minutemen and getting shot down by the Comedian.  It's funny because his terrible decision form the crux of the story, but we don't see nearly as deeply into how he got to that place as we do Rorschach or Dr. Manhattan.

For what it's worth, I think the movie ending made a lot of sense, and was actually better than a giant space vagina octopus.
