According to a statistical analysis of proteins noted in Science News (June 5, 2010)

A model with a single common ancestor but allowing for some gene swapping among species... is 10**3489 times more probable than the best multi-ancestor model...

In other words the study concluded it was 10 followed by 3489 zeroes times more likely that all existing life on Earth originated from a common ancestor than an alternative assumption that existing life forms descended from multiple ancestors.
