Said person then goes on:

"I fear that the great minds of Washington and academia learned nothing from the Great Depression and are determined to repeat it."

Actually, I fear that these alleged great minds are fighting the last war. That in fact they learned their lessons quite well from the Great Depression, but have no clue how to deal with modern-day financial problems insofar as they might require different approaches. (I'm not asserting that this is true, but I do fear this)
