In Which I Watch Serenity

I'm pretty sure everyone has seen all of Firefly and Serenity, but just so you know, there are no spoilers. Also, I'm really emotional right now (dark raspberry chocolate, tissues, and major sobbing is what I was just doing), so I probably sound like a fool. And I'm okay with that.

I will say right now that Joss Whedon and Maggie Stiefvater are the two people that I will always respond with now when someone asks me who my heroes are.

Serenity cut me up into pieces emotionally and engaged every part of my mind. Morals, general beliefs, life, death, love, hate. There is black and white, and there is also gray. Some evil people really believed that what they were doing was right, even though they knew it was evil.

It lay me bare emotionally (I'll be using this word a lot) and it is one of the most honest, unmatched, hopeful masterpieces I have ever laid eyes on. You could have asked me anything while I sat in my living room and I would have answered with the first thing that came to my mind. No filtering, without changing my answer to fit what you wanted to hear, or what I wanted you to hear. (Not that I have huge secrets, or many secrets at all. I'm a pretty boring person. For now. [I have more of a life than many teenagers I know, though.])

When someone asks me, "What is your dream?" or ambition or goal in life or whatever, I will still most likely answer with, "To become a full-time writer, whether it be novels or films or TV Series, any combination, or all three." But the real, and more honest answer is: my dream is to write something, novel/film/TV Series, that is honest and unmatched and hopeful. Like Maggie Stiefvater novels. Like Firefly. Like Serenity. And if possible, to write more than one of them. Because not only are they "fun," for lack of a better word that I can come up with, or perfect or amazing to watch/read, but also because they inspire. They inspire hope, creativity, strength, belief in yourself, and so much more.

"Do you know what the first rule of flying is?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Well I guess you already know what I'm going to say."
"I still want to hear you say it."
"It's love. You can have all the math and calculations in the world, but when they run out, love is what keeps her flying."
