#27 The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell

Dec 08, 2015 17:35

This was another book for my ethical leadership in education graduate class. Maxwell began his career as a pastor and found a passion for building the leadership potential in others. Over the course of his life in leadership roles he has identified, edited, and revised what he believes the essential qualities and skills of a good leader are.

This book is an easy read. I'm not sure that I necessarily agree with everything Maxwell insists upon, or that they are all nearly so distinct. And some parts weren't directly applicable to my role in the school district. But this book was a great tool for reflecting on my own strengths and weaknesses as a leader, and some parts helped me think about concrete steps I can take toward growing my leadership abilities. Some of it also gave me some good food-for-thought when it comes to working with the teachers I coach; how to set goals, set them up for success, and where to concentrate my efforts.
