BBQ & Pool party
Yesterday, we had a BBQ & Pool party over at Ray & Nina's. I'm watching their house and they said I could have friends over, so I figured I'd invite people over for some BBQ. I went a litte overboard with the food though, I wasn't exactly sure how many people to expect, so I bought enough stuff for 24 burgers, 16 hotdogs, and 2 racks of ribs. The ribs were an afterthought as I went to Albertsons to buy some cheese for the burgers and noticed the ribs there. The ribs were really good, they only took about an hour to cook and were a bit overcooked in fact, but they tasted great. I started by brushing them with some Louisiana hot sauce, because it has a low % of sugar (to avoid it from simply burning). I then cooked them over high heat on the propane grill for about 10 mins a side. I turned the heat down to low at that point and cooked for another 35 mins and applied the Albertson's brand Honey BBQ sauce. After cooking another 15 mins, the ribs were done (again, a bit too done). I had wrapped them in aluminum foil, but it tore too easily and the contents leaked all over the place, but it still helped keep some of the moisture in, I think.
George, Dolce, Jeremy V., Chris, Kuma, & Raine all showed up. George decided to bring Leon, which he didn't ask me if it was ok, but he stayed in the backyard, so it seemed to work out. We all went swimming, except for Jeremy, who forgot to bring swimtrunks, and I tried diving, but in the end, just ended up hitting the water hard in every way possible, except the right way!
After we ate and swam, we watched UHF (with Wierd Al) and then went swimming again (Chris, Kuma, Raine, and I - Jeremy just sat at the side of the pool). I think that, unfortunately, we may have made Jeremy a bit uncomfortable with some of the discussions we were having, but he was cool about it. I think we went a bit too far when we started talking about Thor (the home defense system - in-joke). It was funny when we all went to sit in the jaccuzzi, despite not being able to get the air jets to work! I was glad to see Chris really enjoying himself though, it has been a while since he's looked that happy (outside of when he has had a few drinks).
It got a bit late, we ended the evening at about 11:30, at which point I needed to get to sleep for work in the morning, but it was a lot of fun and worth it. I have a mess to clean up when I get back, but it isn't too bad.
