I've been reading charles de lint for approximately ten years now. If you haven't read him, de lint is one of the premier writers in fantasy. His work reminds me a bit of Ray Bradbury's in that De Lint can find magic and wonder in the most mundane of settings. His characters are sharp - usually runaways or artists or people trying to find their place in the world. Any of his books are gems. They are worth the read if you ever get your hands on them.
That can be a difficult thing though. De Lint is one of those writers who has written many things - some like most of his newford stories can be found in most bookstores in some capacity. Others like his subterranean stuff can be damn near impossible - or expensive if you do.
Or like this book, be out of print for so long it's a miracle to find. I've been looking for the Fair to Emain Macha for almost as long as I have read him. I've seen many other wonders in literature. I've seen first editions of A Game Of Thrones by George RR Martin, The Gunslinger first edition by Stephen King. Hell, I've seen first editions of things like Gibbens Decline and fall. Until today I've never seen De Lint's book.
It literally hit me in the face. I was just browsing and there it was. Like it was always supposed to be there.
Cool. I gotta say, it's nice to have that one in the collection. It was worth the wait.
Now if only I could have GLC 32 hit me in the face in the comic shop like that.
