Alrighty. I never expected this to come my way, but I had a lot of fun doing this.

A friend of mine invited me and a mutual friend to participate in the forty eight hour film challenge. The challenge? Make a two to six minute film using three key elements: A prop, a line and a genre. Beyond that, anything went.

We met at six at Boston Pizza and before long we drew our three criteria. Our prop? The ball. The line? I can handle a reasonable amount of trouble. The genre? Road movie.

Considering we were in a house that seemed much more dreadful. Thankfully, we were saved by the power of wikipedia as road movie could be a metaphorical journey. Yay metaphors.

Friday night was the creative jam session. All the principal parties met and discussed what exactly we wanted to do. Collaborative creative jam sessions can be one big circle or one rewarding experience. One of my ideas - the main character meeting himself into the house, pretty lead down the chain of events towards constructing our script. I also however have the distinction of falling asleep first, as I worked both my jobs that day. (I start around 3 in the morning on a good day right now. I work at ungodly times what can I say.) I passed out, Josip actually took photos of my ass which are available on facebook.

I awoke Saturday to freezing cold. Our first shoot was at Nose Hill, which has the distinction of being one of the highest points to view calgary from, and having zero wind protection. I really regretted not wearing my jacket, but filming had to go on. That was a cold shoot, but the camera work was amazing. KJ Malnar, our director, even with a busted toe, carried the energy of the shoot and did some amazing principal photography.

The day went on, and we finished all the outside shots by three. Afterwards, all the attention was inside. The house was perfect for the kind of film we wanted to shoot. It had this creepy vibe that a newly empty house has and it definitely got to show its character. I stayed on the crew till six that night and went to do some other things I had to do. I regret missing the bathroom scenes. They were awesome in the script.

Sunday I came back to witness the final shots and had a small bit of input in the video editing.

There was a lot more that happened, but I think for the most part, that's all the bare bones.

Dalmation Coast Productions - the whole team did all the heavy lifting. This is an excellent six minute film. (An even better eight minute one). I'm thankful for my part in it. Am I proud of it? Absolutely.

For one thing, I learned a lot about making a movie, from production to etiquette and really had a good time being part of the process.

For another, well...

My film is going to be shown tomorrow night!
