I've been pumping myself up for this weekend all week. I've been telling everyone what I had planned to do in order to make me accountable. I would hate going into work Monday morning and having to tell everyone, "Well... no... I didn't do it. I slept in instead."
I have been running, elliptical training, weight training, and rollerblading in a pouring summer rain shower to get ready for this morning.
The alarm went off at 6:00am. I was out the door by 6:30 and on the trail ten minutes after that.
My goal: to rollerblade farther than I ever had before. Several weeks ago, my goal was to reach 20 miles by the end of July. Today, I saw 20 and raised it by three.
I went 23 miles on the rollerblades. Three miles short of a marathon, my next big goal. But that'll have to wait.
I hit my wall at around mile 21. Those last two miles were a doozy. I huffed and puffed to the finish. But I finished, reaching my goal. I'm physically tired, but I feel great. I don't even care if I lose weight right now. Just the thrill of knowing I did what I did is reward enough.
When I got to the station where I finished, a guy was laying on a bench with a bunch of people around. He had passed out from the heat (it was in the mid- to upper-80s by that point) and was starting to make a recovery. I helped him put his bike in my truck and I drove him home. Nice guy. He is a contractor for the Department of Defence, and he's worked at both Sembach AB in Germany (where I was stationed) and golfed in Kapolei, HI (where I lived) while working at Wheeler AB (where Ex-tina worked). Small world.
Anyway. I did my good deed for today. Time for some random acts of evil. Or not. I'm too tired.
