Whenever I can, I try to catch Larry King Live on CNN. It comes on at 8 and then replays at 11. As usual for a Wednesday night, I was at Cracker Barrel last night at 8. After a visit with my mom, (I won't provide details of that event...just read my last post...), I went home and Heather came over. We wanted to watch Jay Leno because Ann Coulter (aka. Satan, sheDevil, the ugly Nazi bitch), and George Carlin were supposed to be on. Well they weren't, and evidently were on earlier in the week. So I was flipping through the channels and decided to see who was on Larry King. All of the sudden I see in all caps and in bold...
THE DEMOCRATIC WOMEN OF THE SENATE
I was in shock...I couldn't breathe...I was drooling...all of them...in one place...at one time.
Barbara Boxer (California), Maria Cantwell (Washington), Hillary Rodham Clinton (New York), Dianne Feinstein (California), Mary Landrieu (Louisiana), Blanche Lincoln (Arkansas), Barbara Mikulski (Maryland), Patty Murrary (Washington), and Debbie Stabenow (Michigan).
I can't even imagine what it must be like to have a Democratic senator in my state...especially a woman Democratic senator! (Side note...although women make up about 51% of the total U.S. population, they only make up 14% of the U.S. Senate...unacceptable).
Anyway, I was in a state of bliss. You all know I love Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton, but I love these other women too. It was a fantastic show! They talked about the Iraq War and about their new Checklist of items. These 9 women joined together to create a 9 point checklist of things that America needs to do or accomplist, and each women is in charge of one checkpoint. They were all very important issues and I was just so proud that we actually have people fighting in the Senate for what Americans most need. Too bad the Democratic party is in the minority in the Senate. The Republican party destroys every bit of progress the Democrats try to put forth.
And you also probably all know how bad I wish Barbara Boxer would run for president. But, she's pretty much taken it off the table and it doesn't look like she has any plans to run. And Russ Feingold is amazing...he stands for everything I believe in.
But, every time I see Hillary Clinton speak I like her more and more. She would also make a fantastic president. I have no doubt in my mind. And besides, it's about damn time for a woman president!
I finished reading her autobiography, Living History, just a few days ago and it was great. One of the most interesting books I've ever read. She has truly lived an extraordinary life, and I feel that she genuinely wants to help American and its people.
Yay for politics! And yay for female politicians! And yay for people that care!
