Things I'll miss: The Victorian version of The Good Weekend

See below, an accurate account of eating durian.
I have fond memories, both in Malaysia and Australia, of my grandparents or parents bringing home durians and siting on the floor eating them. I loved durians so much that I even had a durian flavoured birthday cake when I was eight.

This particular article was written by Benjamin Law for The Good Weekend magazine in the Age. Law's writing is utterly hilarious, every time I manage to get my hands on The Good Weekend, I am constantly reading out his witty lines to Ken.

We went apartment hunting in Sydney last weekend. Knowing nothing about Sydney, we focused on suburbs to the south of the CBD. Apparently the south is scumland, although according to my parents, most of Sydney looks like scumland. Everyone I've talked to is so adamant on how horrible it is living in Sydney, but I'm determined to keep an open mind. We did manage to find a couple of nice places, if not, I guess another day trip is in order this weekend. On the upside, renting does mean that we have the option to move somewhere else in a year's time.

What is it about flying into Melbourne airport that you ALWAYS encounter turbulence. I've been through my fair share of flights and turbulence, but I've never had a pilot abort a landing 50 meters from the ground. Something about timing our arrival perfectly with Saturday's storms. Nothing to make you feel like you should have left some will-money for your pet than an immediate ascent through a thunderstorm from 50 meters to 10000 meters in five minutes.
