My favourite person in the world.
I honestly can't imagine not having Inka in my life; how boring it would be!
Getting a rabbit was a decision made out of convenience, rather than a life-long desire to own a rabbit. In fact, before Inka, I wasn't a rabbit-person at all. I'd been begging Ken for a pet for a couple of months, but he'd already said no to a dog, a cat, a horse and a miniature pig. One day we happened to catch a segment on rabbits on Better Homes & Gardens, to which Ken said, "Wow, they're really cute!" I knew it was a done deal when I caught him looking up rabbit breeds on the internet.
Ever since I've had Inka, I've had a lot of people ask me about rabbits (because, yes, they are extremely cute!) and I would hope that anyone serious about becoming the owner of a rabbit do a lot of research first.
Rabbits can live up to 14 years; that's a longer life-span than a dog! Can you imagine keeping a rabbit for that long? Do you plan to move countries in the next 14 years, because your rabbit will not be able to come with you. Who will look after your rabbit every time you go on a holiday? If you aren't ready to welcome a dog or a cat into your life, then you're probably not ready for a rabbit.
Rabbit.org has a lot of useful information and I'd recommend this as a first-stop if you're looking to get a rabbit.
Rabbits are extremely smart animals and they deserve a home where they can run, jump and be treated like one of the family. They're a bit of hard work, but the love they give back is exponential. You haven't felt love until you're had a rabbit rest their head on your lap.
