Too tired.
Took the train into the city today in order to attend a Red Party committee meeting at Melbourne University. Red Party is well..a red party that is being run by the Victoria Students' Aid Program to raise money for aids. I'm such a noob at finding my way around the city (unless it's shopping I'm looking to do), so I kind of just took the tram that said MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY and sat on it until lots of people got off. Then I stumbled around and called Bharat to come and rescue me, which he did, as well as give me a quick tour of the university I came so close to going to.
Red Party is primarily a Melbourne University function, however I somehow got dragged into it by Bharat. I remember a couple of months ago he asked me if I knew any graphic design students who would be willing to do some work for them. A couple of months later they still hadn't found anyone, and so I agreed to do their posters. Then I did their flyers. Then I did their tickets. And somewhere along the way I became the main concept designer. It feels so intense to be thrown into something like this; where I'm the go-to person for anything graphic related. The last time I was involved in anything of this size was when I was Production Editor for my high school magazine. Not many people know, but the cover of the school magazine was the last piece of work I ever did on Photoshop. The creative juices ran dry, but it seems like three years later, it's all back.
I know I've been complaining so much about landing this gig; I've never been good with handling criticism or curbing my creativity to meet client needs. And sure, it makes me pretty irritable when people give me crazy deadlines; no one seems to realise that one design takes at least three hours. But honestly, THIS IS MEGA EXCITING. Not only do I feel like I'm doing something useful, but the prospect of seeing my work printed and tangible is so incredibly amazing.
I knew I should have pursued a career in graphic design.
