Sweet. It sounds like Professor Lyke has taken me under her wing. Everything has been loosely official, in kind of a "let me lend you a hand" sort of way, or at least that's what I'd thought, but in reply to some ethical questions I had involving using phone sex clients as subjects and my limited access to an ethics review board, she wrote "Don’t worry about the ethics part. I can help you with that as you keep clarifying your idea. Stockton does have an IRB and you can use it even though you’re not at Stockton anymore because you’re associated with me."
This is great. The only thing about it that's kind of awkward is my previous plan to dance this dance with Dr. White. I mean, he's the one who suggested publishing in the first place.
I don't know how flattered to be about this. I am certainly aware of the "publish or perish" part of being a professor, and I have proven to be a diligent and talented student, so I could see how either would want to hitch on to this idea for the more selfish purposes than the lesser one. I could also see how either would be interested in this topic, considering its novelty. I suppose none of this matters. Winners on all ends.
But yes. I don't know how I would break this to Dr. White, or if it would even take "breaking." He may not at all be invested. He's a very busy man, and may believe I have taken off on this project without him. And it's not as though I didn't give him many a re-entry point (heh); but a girl can't spend all her life waiting for one professor. A girl's got needs.
Bill and I bought our tickets a couple of days ago. Well. Bill bought them, specifically.
I am a feminist with a sugar daddy.
We're going to be flying into Denver on the 27th of May and returning on 3 June. I'm excited. Bill is getting so much sex for this. This cat seriously knows how to keep the person he's in a relationship with happy, especially if that person is me. It's a perfect gift: we each get to travel to someplace neither of us have been to yet, I get to see my best mate from the ship/Bill gets to meet a legend, I can't sell an experience like I could jewelry or anything else if we ever broke up, and every time I think about the fact that we're going to Colorado, it's paired with this immense sense of gratitude towards the person making it all possible.
We don't have to worry about a hotel or a car or anything while we're there. Frasure's flatmate's going to be in Spain and California for some large amount of time, including the week that we'll be there, so we have a room to stay in. Also, Frasure will be picking us up and dropping us off.
Or, he'll be going to the airport with us since he's been invited, yet again, to be the keynote speaker at his old middle school because he's the bootstrap kid who was supposed to fail at everything physically, intellectually, and financially but has succeeded in everything he's ever tried ever. Seriously, the dude uses his biography to get funding for everything. He was in a coma and then paralyzed from the chest down and given some odd amount of time to live as a child; now he's wrestler and involved with the football team. He was born into a broken, impoverished, "white trash" trailer park family with no father or any reason to aspire to college and many a reason to turn into one of any of Eric Hickey's sociopaths; now he's a world-traveling sociologist and the strongest feminist I know personally who isn't Bill or a professor.
Also he's pretty cute, and we love to hate each other, violently so. Bill, Frasure and I will have a lot of fun together.
I'm stoked about being able to play some frisbee golf. I'm even more stoked about the opportunity to tour all of those wooooonderful breweries. I've been cruising YouTube, as per Frasure's threats, to prepare myself for forming a technique. You'd likely be surprised at the subculture disc golf has going. It's treated, pretty much, like any other sport. There's even a PDGA. Rightfully so, I guess. I've just never been able to look at a frisbee and think professional athleticism.
