One of my many adventures this summer... (x-posted to GUDU)

Meet Annalise. This is going to be a liiiitle picture heavy.

Pre dready. She was squicked out at the texture of her hair after a Dr. Bronner's wash. Anyhow, quick bit of background. We've been best friends since elementary school and since we both moved a while back, I hardly ever get to see her. You can imagine my excitement at the prospect of seeing her for the first time in months as well as dread her hair this summer :P

We sectioned and took a break, during which she terrorized her newly acquired kitten, Javan.

Past two in the morning. Me dying of movie over-exposure and hand cramps. Anna dying of poofiness and sitting still. Javan dying of too much attention, he looks absolutely thrilled, doesn't he? We must have watched 5 or 6 movies... good ones, mind you, but gah. Too much screen time.

The next morning going crazy with pastels in her kitchen :P

Two days later at the Gig Harbour Renn Faire in Washington, soooo much fun! And I got to meet her wonderful boy, Sam. I was itching to dread his hair too.

Another few days later after I left. Shortly after I got home I received a tentative email. "Joy... I'm sorry, but I combed them out. I hope you don't mind too much," Haha, oh well. It's her hair, right? I had a blast making them and spending time with her. She said she'll probably reconsider at the beginning of next summer when she has some time to get used to them. I don't think she expected so much poofiness and was apprehensive about going back to school as the fuzzball she isn't used to being. But they looked fantastic on her and I made sure she knew that.

My dreads turned 5 months on Sept. 5th and though I indulged in a fantastic camera, I haven't taken many photos of myself.

I wore them up a lot when it was warm. And the flowy shirt. I wore that thing more than half my waking hours this summer.

I have a snake in my hair! Actually, I have quite a few things in my hair (cowrie shells, jingle bells, a few beads). Many of my friends like to amuse themselves by trying to find everything. It rarely happens though... I've almost lost track of everything that's latched on.

A lovely nostril shot... I love my loops!

For once, an okay attempt at a back-shot. The light blue embroidery floss has since been removed.

All these have been pre-maintenance. As in essentially neglected for a good two months except for a bit of palmrolling after swimming in rivers. I generally keep things a bit tidier....

...like so. My curly hair makes it hard to have the gorgeous uniform dreads I seem to like so much, but it's been a good lesson in patience and acceptance so far. 4 months was probably their best stage so far, but I actually really like them right now also. It's so fun watching them form their little quirks! Next time I'll post some shots of my favorites.

Loves!
