call Swanee the angry pilgrim!

As if it isn't bad enough that stores have had their Christmas merchandise on display since September, and as if it isn't bad enough I have already seen two houses with Christmas lights on, it actually gets worse. As of yesterday, a mere two days after Halloween, 93.9FM is playing 24/7 Christmas music. Hello! It's the beginning of November. (Apparently they weren't the first in the country either - KOSY FM is Salt Lake City allegedly flipped on HALLOWEEN NIGHT!) And if it's anything like previous years, they are probably only playing about 15 different songs, because most Christmas music is consider too spiritual to air. What? Too spiritual? Have people forgotten the entire point of Christmas? I am by no means a religious person - I think I can almost count the number of times I've gone to church my entire life on my fingers, but come on!

This is why I have come to like Christmas less and less with each passing year. All the build up and shopping countdowns and nonsense like that, and then it's over in a day. Maybe you can get away with the occasional holiday party between Christmas and New Year's, but other than that, it's over. When I was a kid, we would put up our tree the weekend before my younger brother's birthday (Dec 10) and take it down the weekend before my dad's (Jan 12). And people would come to the house on January 5th and be horrifed that we still had our tree up.

I refuse to turn this into a three hour long rant, because hey, it's November. I feel like I've said too much already. The point is, November 2nd is too early to start playing Christmas carols.
