A Loud, Obnoxious Yell

All my life, I was known as an anti-girly girl. That's what happens when your older brother tells you that Ninja Turtles are far superior to the American Girl dolls.

So when I came to college, I didn't want to be stuck in the typical "sorority," complete with puffy paints and, "Can I help ya, help ya, help ya?!"

Boy, was I thrilled when someone told me that Delta Zeta was the, "calm, chill sorority." Because that's exactly what I wanted.

Unfortunately, a lot of people who go through rush don't. So our house has always been on the small side.

Physically, we have one of the smallest houses on campus. We lost 36 seniors last year, which dropped our numbers even more. I loved how we were smaller, since I could get to know everyone well.

But we kept hearing it. We kept hearing how important it was for us to regain the people we lost.

So, what did we do?

We all thought back to why we joined DZ in the first place. We sang obnoxious songs, we shouted random tribal-esque chants, and we bonded in an amazing way.

And, as I walked around reading some of the 400 the sister-to-sister messages lining 4 rooms in the house, I heard the celebration. We have the largest pledge class on campus. We beat out the "sororities." We wowed 'em--and we did it without puffy paint.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad I'm in a sorority.

I'm even more glad it's DZ. Because it's been one of the best decisions I made. :)
