2 Months Worth of Photo Journaling

In September:

I met Dan and Kathy's baby.  Very cute. Haven't seen or talked to them since.  I've seen her Great Aunt twice at the Costco.  Is this what happens to your friendships?

We bought a baby backpack and took it for a test drive up Sunshine Canyon.

In October:

Van started pulling up in his crib and then on the couch and then on chairs and. . . .  he's very happy about it.  Now he's cruising like a champ.

Dan bought a "new" truck.  So we're a two car family now which is very nice.  It's amazing how much more freedom that affords everyone.  The first weekend we had it; we took Van on his first 4-wheeling trip.

We watched Gracie the Dog for a few days for Big T and Jiggy.  She can be quite skittish, but Van enjoyed playing with her when she allowed it.

We celebrated Halloween in many different ways.  He was a giraffe each time.  This is a photo from my MOMS Club Board Member's party.  I became the newsletter editor that month.  It ended up being a bit more political than I thought it would be and a good bit of hard work, but I like it.

Van saw his first snow.  And of course, as he's from our loins.  He dug it.  He dug it the most.

Plus, the little tike turned one.  We had a big bash planned, but he woke up sick sick sick.  You can see how miserable he is in this shot.  It was weird for a couple of days, as he turned into a stranger practically overnight.  It caught me off guard, as I hadn't been keeping up with my development reading.   But then I read that they start to understand that they are a different entity than their parents and it freaks them out and they can become very clingy.  Then a few days later, he morphed from that clingy hesitant baby into a raging boy.  Loud rambunctious little boy.

Also, there were visitors.  Jill and Sadie came to visit in honor of Zie's b-day and we had girl day.  It was very nice.  I personally didn't photo document that day, but it was lovely.  We did check-ins during which no one was allowed to interrupt except to ask clarifying questions.  It was interesting how the updates expired over a week.  My update was all sunshine and daisy, but then less than a week post girl day, I was having the Van turning one issues and Dan and I were clashing over me working.  And the same for the other girls.  Things keep ebbing and flowing.  Here's a photo from when I met Sadie on Pearl.

In November:

Mom and Dad came to visit and Van got his first official haircut.  It was awesome to have them here.  We didn't do much but watch Van and it was great.  We did go shopping though!

Also, we went to Moab for 4 days before Thanksgiving.  We forgot the camera and bought disposable ones.  We'll scan some in later.  We hiked a lot and read.  We stayed in cabins that had beds, heat and a fridge, but nothing else.  We did out cooking on a backpack stove in one pot.  It's pretty much roughing it when you've got a 1 year old.  Then, we had Thanksgiving at Dan's Mom's house.  Uhhh, and now our camera is on the fritz.  We don't know why.  We got some photos of Van, but then it just went wonky on us.  We are very upset.

Also, the Jeep broke down one day while Mom and Dad were here.  The power steering went awol.  It cost a lot to get fixed and caused a HUGE fight with Dan.  It took us a few days to recover from that.

We also decorated the house.  Van likes the lights.  It was a good time, even if we could only take turns, while the other occupied Van's attention.

Oh and I babysat a 9 month old for 4 days.  I do not see how Sadie does this nanny thing.  It was quite the learning experience to watch a kid for those long stretches who has a different personality than mine.   There were some good times, but he could be so whiny.  He whimpered and it almost drove me bonkers.

In December:

We went snowboarding yesterday in Eldora.  Dan and I took turns watching the baby, while the other hit the slopes.  We only snowboarded about an hour each, but the conditions weren't all that, so it was enough.  Mostly.  On powder days, we'll need a sitter.  We bought the boy a toboggan and we pulled him around the snow.  He did really well with it all.

Today we went to the Zoo and saw the Zoo Lights.  It was awesome.  There were some animals to see and a ton of christmas lights.  Van liked the lights.  The animals. . . . he was as interested in them as he was the people.  And what's the difference really?

Some other stuff:

I joined another bookclub.  I belong to 3 now.

I joined a Meal Making Group.  We, a group of 8 women, get together once a month and we each prepare 8 servings of a dish to freeze, then we share.  We all go home with 8 meals to be frozen and then thawed later to be warmed up and eaten.  My full opinion on this is still formulating.  It's nice to have an easy option for dinner, but not all the meals are great.  And it can be a lot of work.  I hosted the last meeting and it was a messy affair.

The little guy is definitely becoming more plugged in everyday.  He's definitely saying words and trying to pick up new ones.  He loves books and music.  We went to a toddler music class and he dug the sticks.  Perhaps, he'll be a drummer.  He certainly loves to bang on stuff.  Sounds like a drummer to me!

Tuesday morning I fly home to KY for Christmas.  I'll be there 3 weeks.  I'm going to miss my bed and my Christmas tree, but it'll be a lot of fun.
