anniversary

Last weekend Dan and I celebrated our anniversary.  2 years.  It doesn't seem like it's been two years.  But as it has been 2 years, that makes it an even year and thus I was in charge of the planning.  We already have that in place.  I think taking trips wouldn't be the precedent, but I was coming back to America this time last year and Dan wanted us to be alone and do something nice together.  At that time we were squatting in Amy's office, you see, so to be completely alone required some type of trip-- so that was the beginning of the trip taking. Perhaps, if we'd had a place to be alone last year, we would just go to nice dinners or something, but instead that lack of living quarters established a small trip event for our anniversary.  I for one love that, so it was decided that I'd do the even years and he'd do the odd ones.  This year  I wanted to go someplace close, because of gas prices.  Plus, why drive so far to be alone when there's so many cute places to go to in the front range?  And of course, Sarah was babysitting during my first over night stay away from Van and though she's most dependable superbabysitter, I wanted to not be so far away for our first 24 hour trip away.

It's a secret too, so that's a lot of fun.  To come up with something the other person wouldn't think of and then surprise them with it.  So I planned for us to go to the Gold Hill Inn Murder Mystery.  I mean, how random is that?  It's about 30 minutes into the hills in the historic gold mining town of Gold Hill.  On Saturday, we had breakfast and got ready.  Sarah came over about 12:30 and then Dan and I went to Jamestown for a hike along the St. Vrain River.  It was so fun.  I haven't been on a hike without the wee one for over a year.  ( I was pregnant for last year's anniversary hike and trip.)  Then from Jamestown, we snaked through more canyons (driving through the canyons was half the fun), and headed for the Bluebird Lodge, built in 1872 and very noisy place with the creaky steps.  For $200 per couple, there's drinks, a 5 course meal, lodging, and an interactive Murder Mystery is acted out around you.  Plus, they suggest that you dress up in the era in which the Murder Mystery unfolds.  1937 was the year and I'm sure it won't surprise any of you, that I pulled some stuff out of my closet that fit the bill well enough for both Dan and I.  Someone had on a flapper outfit which, of course, is *all* wrong.  Yes, I turned into my mother as I reviewed everyone's costumes.  Dan and I didn't have hats, so that would have been better, but it was good fun.  There was good food, ample alcohol, and the viewing of "dead" bodies between courses.  So fun.  The website for anyone interested--  www.goldhillinn.com.
