According to babycenter.com:
Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to accommodate his brain - which is busy developing billions of neurons (important for later learning). With this rapid growth, it's no surprise that your baby's nutritional needs reach their peak during this trimester. To keep yourself and him well nourished, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamin C, folic acid, iron, and calcium. Her bones, in particular, are soaking up lots of calcium now, so drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, like cheese or enriched orange juice). (About 200 milligrams of calcium is deposited in your baby's skeleton - which is now hardening - every day.) And get enough fiber in your diet to help prevent constipation, which can lead to hemorrhoids, a common occurrence in late pregnancy. Plus, heartburn and constipation may take center stage again. The pregnancy hormone progesterone relaxes smooth muscle tissue throughout your body, including your gastrointestinal tract. This relaxation, coupled with the crowding in your abdomen, slows your digestive process, which can cause gas and heartburn, especially after a big meal. Another problem you can credit to your growing uterus (and constipation) is hemorrhoids. Also, even if your belly button was an "innie" before, it may become an "outie" now.
ahhhh pregnancy, it's so glamorous!!
I'm doing okay, feeling alright. A bit more aches and pains here and there, but nothing too terrible. A back ache around my trapezoids is the worst. Heartburn I have, but I curb that with ice cream. And look at that, I get calcium from that too!! How glorious to have so many good reasons to have pints of glorious ice cream in the house. I love ice cream.
This weekend was a socializing maelstrom. Carl had a shindig at D&B's and I got to see Tara. Then Sarah came over and we watched a movie. On Saturday, there was bookclub and mall time with the girls. Then I took my pregnant self dancing in honor of Amy's divorce finalizing. I spent most of the time outside. So hot in there! Perhaps, the baby'll like techno now. On Sunday, I did more nesting and unpacking and cleaning which is always nice and I even did some baking for the Tea Party and Flower Essences Gathering I had. That was a lot of fun. Good tea, good company, good snacks, good flower essences, and of course, good conversation. The last girls to leave had stayed 7 hours by the time of departure. We even fit in a walk and dinner. It was nice.
And we now have a table in the kitchen! We had dinner on it last night and breakfast this morning. Do you know how long it's been since I got to eat at a table while sitting in a chair? Over a year, dude. It's glorious.
Dan and I are getting along okay. I have pregnancy brain and hands, which means I'm forgetful and clumsy these days. And that's difficult for us both. He gets frustrated. I get frustrated. I get upset because I'm frustrating myself *and* irritating him. But he pulls his head out of his ass often and realizes that afterall, this *is* all his fault, what with his sperm and all. . . . so we bounce back after some discussion and a few tears from me. Apologies and hugs and kisses and it any irritation slips away. I'm grateful that we bounce back quickly and don't carry grudges. Or at least, many of them. . . . ;-)
daily grind,
baby
