Health Problems

I hadn't been feeling that well and it had been over 6 years since I had a physical so I went to the doctor. Got the test results yeasterday. Some good news and some not so good.

GOOD NEWS:
The mammogram showed no cancer and bone density test were in normal range. (better in the hips than the spine but all within normal range)

BAD NEWS:
Bad cholesterol is too high, good cholesterol is too low, triglycerites were also high.

And the worst news - I am now a diabetic.

I left the doctors office with a handfull of prescriptions, a referal for a dietician and feeling pretty depressed.

I will have to say goodbye to my favorite things to eat (sweets, barbecue, pizza, Dr. Pepper, french fries, cheeseburgers, etc.)

Well it cost over two hundred dollars (thank God for insurance co-payments or it would have been much worse.)

I have to do blood sugar testing (pin pricks to fingers & blood on test strips) twice a day.

For lunch I had spiniach wrap and a kiwi, for supper I had pasta and salad (with fat free rasberry and pecan dressing). The good news is I have already brought down the blood sugar reading over 100 pts since the blood sugar reading at the doctors office. But at 46 it will be a long road to keep it down and stick to a regiment.

Diet, exercise (yuck) and avoiding stress (as if) will all be important.

The doctor wanted to talk about quitting smoking, too but I told him I didn't want to even think about that now, let me get the other stuff under control first.

I have to totally get out of my comfort zone and change my lifestyle. I know logically that it is for my good and will keep me around (and in better shape) to raise my grandson. I am not good with regimented routines - that was my mom's specialty. I am missing her so much right now!!!

Anyway since I will have to spend more time thinking about and fixing food, add time for exercise, testing, etc...I will be on the computer even less.

If I don't do what the doctors say I can have a stroke, heart attack or develop other health complications.
