Welcome to Edensphere, Rukongai; my name is Fred.

I suppose the more 'exciting' jobs would be either Scavenging or Adventuring; in either of those you are quite a bit more likely to run into [pen taps] interesting situations than in some other jobs.

Thanks. Fred. Can't guarantee I'll remember that. Dunno how you're supposed to keep writing straight.

Yeah? What sort of interesting situations?

It takes practice, though some employ ways to mark each person's writing, and refer back to that as needed.

As a Scavenger you work in the scrapyard, and are liable to run into golems--that is, large creatures made up of junk. They are fiercely territorial, but slow and somewhat clumsy. Even someone who has little knowledge of fighting can survive working down there if they remember to pay attention to what is going on around them.

As an Adventurer, you will be required to explore the Wilderness, an area of Edensphere that changes roughly three times a month. Sometimes there are dangerous Wildernesses; sometimes they are perfectly safe. Most frequently, they are relatively safe if, like in the scrapyard, one merely keeps one's wits about oneself, and does not act foolishly.

Yeah? What ways?

Slow and clumsy. Don't sound like much.

And most of the time there ain't anything exciting to them? How often do the fun ones show up?

Bookmarks, mostly. Perhaps they also write the name that each variety of handwriting belongs to.

I appreciate not having to fight them, personally, but to each their own.

Let me see... roughly eight months ago or so, it was very much like a version of hell. I believe there were monsters living there that some of the people here fought. Then about six months ago, it was a warzone. The latest Wilderness seems quite dangerous; strange bird-like things attack the people who go down there, according to the reports, but it also changes your form into that of an animal.

How many people are there? You gotta mark for each one?

Things ain't meant to be run from.

Six months. Guess I'll check it out now and hope for the birds.

Roughly two thousand. And it is entirely up to you; I was merely making a suggestion.

Perhaps not, but I am not really someone versed in the art of defending myself against metallic monsters.

Make sure you take someone with you, else you will not be able to find your way back to the lift.

Two thousand. Lotta marks. You keep all of them straight?

Why not?

That ain't right, but I figure I'll be with Blood anyway, so it don't matter much.

I am able to remember what most people's writing looks like, so I have little need of them.

I find I am quite proficient at running away, so it is not worth putting in the effort.

In that case, you should be fine.

Got tricks?

You're bragging about running away? Place is messed up.

Not really, it is something I just seem to be able to do as a matter of course.

Why not brag if you happen to be good at a certain thing?

Anyone got tips? Writing's writing. It don't define no one. Ain't like a fight, where you can see where someone stands.

It's running away.

Hard to say; I only know I have seen some with bits of paper in their journals. Perhaps they write the names that belong to the handwriting on the paper?

It is an acceptable means of staying alive, and I would much rather be that than the other option.

Might work. I'll try it.

What sort of life you got if you spend it running? Stand and face things.

As I said, I would much prefer being alive than otherwise. If it takes running away to accomplish that, I will do it with alacrity.

So where do you stand if you run for your life?
