Yes that’s right. I got out the old Con-Air Ion Shine and went at it. How did they get so wet that they needed a blow-dry? Well, some of you have heard of my fight with the washer-dryer saga, but a re-cap: The sign on the washer said “do not use more than a 1/4 cup of detergent to prevent over-sudsing. So I obediently poured a little over a quarter of a cup of Woolite (the only stuff I’d bought up to that point) into the machine and fed the greedy thing its quarters. When I came to switch my clothes into the dryer I noticed that the gym clothes were still a little rank, so I cursed that damned lie of a sign, forked over 6 more quarters and this time, a full cup of the regular old Tide I’d purchased during the first wash. A half an hour later I returned to find soaking wet, super sudsy clothes. Damn-it! Six more quarters and another half an hour later I had spun-out clothes ready for the dryer, which also didn’t work, and I ended my night with damp clothes around 12:30 with no more quarters to finish the job (I did however successfully clean and dry my clothes the next day).
Over the past several weeks, you’d think I’d have mastered the right amount of detergent and dryer settings and extra quarters, and for the most part I have a handle on it.
My sneakers had gotten a little stinky and they’re much too new to be discarded for a new pair, so I decided to stick ‘em in the washing machine. Six quarters and a half an hour later I returned to see white foam pressing up against the clear glass washing machine door. But this time, instead of getting soapy soapy clothes, when I opened the door the suds and foam came rushing out onto the floor! I could only dig my arm into the white soapy abyss to pull out my sneakers and run out of there before I got covered in the soapy river.
So as you can imagine, my sneakers were soaked and soapy. I put them in the shower to rinse, and then blow-dried them in hopes of having dry sneakers to be able to go to the gym the next day. No luck. Guess I'm going to the pool tonight instead. Here's hoping for dry sneakers tomorrow.
