Oh man, I am so out of it today. Possibly a combination of social hangover or physical overexertion or something, as I just came off a rather busy (for me) weekend, but it took me getting a piece of feedback to my popslash remix story to consciously realize that, oh yeah, there were those feedback email boxes at the bottom of each story where other people could actually tell you what they thought of your story. And some people might! So, hey. Cool. I wasn't expecting that. My popslash stuff is less popular than my bandslash stuff nowadays, and as a result I tend to classify those stories differently in my head. I don't assume they'll be widely read or feedbacked, so I'm writing them more for me than anyone else, especially as I no longer really use a beta for them though I generally can fast-talk someone into taking a squint at them before I have to submit. Anyway, it was a surprise, is all. A pleasant one.
The point is, I wrote a story for the
We Invented The Remix popslash challenge, and, hey, if anyone wants to play this game, I'll write a ficlet to a prompt for whoever correctly identifies my story. Do I have any writing tics to identify me? I'm always terrible at guessing these things.
In other news, my evening plans just called to tell me the talk this evening was sold out, so he couldn't score tickets, which is actually a relief as now I have my evening free to do valuable things like pick up the apartment, fold my laundry, watch episodes of The Office, and not talk to people (until
canadiankracka blows into town, yay!), all of which are Of The Good.
1) Friday evening! Saw Spiderman 3, of which my reaction can be summed up as: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME. Oh my God SO LAME. What the fuck EVER Sam Raimi. Bruce Campbell's cameo was the best part of that movie. Topher Grace was the second best part of that movie as his character (slightly slimely and loveable asshole) was at least consistent throughout the entire film.
2) Saturday evening: Hot Fuzz! Man, I adored this one. I now need to go back and watch all of their video diaries, because I watched a few of them before seeing the movie, and those guys are hilarious and sweet. I actually have a top two grossest scenes of the movie list, both of which involve church steeples, though in wildly different ways. My friend that I saw the movie with was a little shellshocked when he left the theater, though. He hadn't seen Shaun of the Dead beforehand, and thus didn't have any idea what was in store. He just kept shaking his head, saying, "That was...so bizarre." Give him a week, and I think he'll think it was the awesomest movie ever and will start proselytizing on the streets.
3) Sunday morning, bright and early: Hiking in New Hampshire. Awesome good times, even though I had to get up at 7am on a Sunday and then do all the four hours of driving. It was sunny and beautiful and yet just a little cold, which was perfect hiking weather, and my hiking cohorts and I managed to talk easily with each other the entire nine hours we spent in each other's company.
4) Sunday evening: a surprise last-minute ticket to the Kooks concert at the Paradise. I...was not at my best for this. I basically jumped in the shower immediately after getting back from the hike, and then jumped on the T to go to the show. I was sun-tired, footsore, and my knee hurt from hiking, which meant that I wasn't exactly in the best humor to appreciate standing for almost four hours. That said, I didn't have a bad time, per se, and the lead guitarist for the Kooks was really good. We watched from the balcony overlooking the tiny, long rectangular floor of the club, which meant that I spent most of the show people-watching and feeling like I was in a WB teen drama. I was just waiting for vampires to emerged from the darkened corners. Bonus plus though was the hot bartender who looked up from reading a copy of the New Yorker when I wandered away during the opener to get a rum and coke.
Anyway, I'm probably going to be kind of quiet for the next little bit, so don't be surprised if you don't see me around IM or anything. I do, as always, remain faithfully yours, etc. etc.
