"Fear me, love me. Do as I say, and I will be your slave."

Anyone remember this oh-so-awesome little 1986 film?
Last month, my friends and I threw a birthday party for our friend Erin. We successfully surprised her with a Labyrinth theme. Most of us grew up watching this movie frequently, and it remains one of Erin's favorites.
We decorated the room to look like the masqued ball scene (Sarah's hallucination after taking a bite of the poisoned peach), as it is Erin's favorite part. We dressed Erin as ballgown-Sarah. Most of the girls also wore masqued ball attire. We danced, ate peaches, and played a few games, including "Help Hoggle Exterminate The Faeries." We suspended little toy faerie dolls from the ceiling with fishing line and took turns taking aim with a Nerf gun.
We had a baby Toby...
We had a Sir Didymus...because Gretchen just happens to own ears and a tail...
The others decided that since I have a massive crush on David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King, I should come as him. I modeled my look after his wardrobe in the "Magic Dance" scene. I bought a wig. I viewed several "Jareth eye makeup how-to" videos on YouTube. I had a blast!
I had the culinary inspiration to make Bog of Eternal Stench for dessert, rather than a traditional birthday cake. I placed chocolate cupcakes here and there in a tray to be the rocks that Ludo calls upon to get across the Bog. For the Bog, I flung spoonfuls of chocolate pudding and green jello into the spaces between the cupcakes. Mmmm.
