When asked what genre my original writing is, I should reply that it's "Age of Sail" adventure with humour and mystery and drama and gay romance and supernatural elements. I should, but I don't, because the next question will be: "QUOI?" and so I've settled for either "I write Georgian ghost stories in a naval seeting" or "Penny Dreadfuls which are ( Read more... )

I can't even understand myself, some days.

I'd say you're not alone with that. I guess that's true for all of us.

To me occured only after I've written my book(s) that each story had some paranormal background. Now you've read some of my fanfic, and it's true for that writing as well. During my research I found that the overwhelming number of reports about paranormal sightings have been made in the 18th century - a century which was not really prone to superstition. That changed in the 19th century, resulting in the much-loved Victorian ghost stories.

My genre is AoS with a supernatural streak and male/male romance. That's what I'm good at, and nothing annoys me more than people who try to tell me that I should write more "serious" stories. "You could do it! Can't you leave the gay stuff out? Then you could sell more books!" Yes, I know that, but I don't write anything else but what I write. I don't have a magic button in my head to push and write whatever might be "more sellable".

So I've made my own shelf, and while it's a small one and in the back of the shop where hardly anybody ever visits, I'm quite happy with it. :)

AWE cheapened everything. But I won't start my AWE rants again, hehe, that would be boring. Calypso could have been such a wonderful character, and they completely ruined her. Curse you, Disney, curse you!

They kept the writers - sort of. They just didn't have a script. NO SCRIPT! Incredible. But it explains a lot!

"the overwhelming number of reports about paranormal sightings have been made in the 18th century - a century which was not really prone to superstition" I didn't know either of those facts - rather interesting, I must say!!

Bah humbug I say on people like that. If you're going to be a writer, write what you like. If you're going to be making a living as a writer, you should probably try and find some sort of nonfiction/steady source that will accept publications and make some sort of effort to be "sellable"... to an extent.

Me doth think that I might possibly join you on that shelf, someday. ^^ Although there's not telling, at least in my head at the moment, how much fantasy there would be vs. simply supernatural. *hearts her fantasy*

AWE rants are quite fun, though!! xDD In math class today Maddy and I spent almost the entire time ranting/discussing AWE & DMC. It was fun. ^^ (Although we only got, like, 3 questions done... *whistles innocently*) Maddy has a nickname: Mad Dog. She is infamous for rants, in our school. xP

NO SCRIPT????? !?!!??!?!? B CHJSDBSD VJKSNBVBDSFBVHS V FTW????? That is like, traitorous and horrible and awful and GAH. Bastards. They should be shot, hanged, drawn & quartered. And then brought back to life and swallowed by their bloody kraken. *fumes*
