Jack Davenport: "I only ever play losers or idiots"

May 16, 2007 02:05

Short explanation: Annie used to be my almost-agent - almost because she switched her job (which was not my fault!). She's not agenting anymore, but rather doing something she enjoys more in the entertainment industry. Which is a great thing! Now she seems to be lurking out there (I know you do, otherwise I wouldn't make that post! You can reply without having an account, just sign your name so I know it's you. :-D)

Anyway, following my entry yesterday on Jack Davenport's role in "Swingtown", which sparked quite an interesting discussion, she sent me a link to an interview with Jack Davenport that was done some years ago. She agreed with my point of view as a member of the audience, but disagreed as someone who works "in the industry".

I've never seen this interview before, and I found it highly interesting, because though it's not "new-new", it sheds some light on how Jack Davenport seems to see himself, his acting and his career and typecasting. It adds to the discussion we had, so I thought I share.

'I want to play a leprous, lesbian dwarf from Guatemala!'

"(...) "If you do something and it proves to be a success, then people go 'get him to do that type of thing again, but only slightly different'. Either you do that or you go 'No! I want to play a leprous, lesbian dwarf from Guatemala!' But those parts just aren't coming to me." (...)"

Intriguing.
