Pilfered from corrielle - counting down the days to Thursday (that's when I'll see On Stranger Tides - yes, I've already bought the ticket!).

Day 1. What were your first impressions of PotC?

"Nice ship, but where are Johnny Depp and Bloomsie? Ugh, fog, I bet we get to see some ghosts now, but I'd rather see Johnny Depp and Bloomsie. Oh the hell the no, a ( Read more... )

it won't be released here until Friday, but we are skipping premier night this time...

My daughter & I have been hitting all of the trailers & articles & are going to the matinee on the following Saturday...so looking forward to seeing Jack in a more natural setting - all by his onesie & looking out for himself!

I was surprised they had tickets for the pre-première. With all the last PotC movies, the first week was always completely sold out in the first week. I think people want to wait for their friends' reviews first before they buy tickets. I can't say I blame them after AWE... I wish you and your daughter a lot of fun! Matinees are great, usually one's alone in the cinema. :)

we had a ball the last time, even though we waited in line for over an hour...but they made sure we were entertained...I still have the popcorn bucket & the cups from that night. :)

Since school will be out shortly & we are going on a Saturday, the day after it opens - we will most likely not be alone, but the more the merrier!!!

will certainly be gushing about it in a post afterwards! looking forward to your reviews of it as well.

Have been acquiring knowledge of POTC during my stay with volgivagant so have at last some better inkling of what this is all about - but I am still undecided whether I am going down this road and acquiring yet more age of sail escapism !!
on the other hand Pirates is on TV tonight on a very thin night for viewing ....

PotC (at least the first) is wonderfully light-hearted popcorn cinema, in the tradition of the good old Errol Flynn classics. I'd call it "historical fantasy", because there are historical blunders a plenty. It doesn't bother me, though, it's clear that those movies are set in their own world. The trouble with the sequels was that they tried to be something they weren't. Especially AWE was truly terrible in that regard. I hope OST will return to its roots. I don't want deep and meaningful, just two fun hours. :)
