Heh, you can tell how far behind I am with replying...! :-D I guess I'll be up-to-date somewhen around next Christmas!
I can write if I completely zone out on the movie, because - *ducks* - I don't want to be unkind, but he's just not a convincing officer. At least not to me. It's not the "pirate-fangirling" (I don't see it as such, more as paying respect to a worthy opponent), but simply because he looks like an actor in an uniform of the Royal Navy. Of course so are Norrington and Gillette, but with those two - just like with Mullroy and Murtogg - the magic of cinema works. It doesn't for Groves, though, at least for me.
At the risk of sounding like an idiot: for me, his face looks too modern to make me believe that this is a Royal Navy officer of the 18th century.
differently from Mr Davenport and Mr O'Hare, Mr Ellis does not fulfill my personal requirements for the "gorgeous" tag. Yes, I can be *so* shallow. *g*
Mileage may vary when it comes to "gorgeous", but I agree that Mr. Ellis would NOT be among my "top ten men I'd like to end up on a desert island with" list... ;) Was that diplomatic enough...? :-D
