It's quite random, but it's interesting to see what people ending up on Joyful Molly have been looking for. Most-searched on top.

No, you're right. There have not been many Groves-fics out there. Personally I confess guilty: I'm biased against his character and I generally do not include him in my fics (or, if I do, it is always with not particularly flattering features), because, in my personal take of the CotBP characters, I've categorized him as a pirate-fangirl (and, to be honest, his return in AWE as an EITC officer does not increase him in my estimate). But it's just a foible of mine than something actually supported by the CotBP canon (while, as far as AWE is concerned, mine are just speculations and I may be wrong).
OTOH, it is a fact that Groves'admiration for Sparrow may likewise be interpreted like a fair respect for an underestimated enemy, which is a fully gentleman-like and officer-like feeling. :)

I also think part of my lack of interest for Mr Groves comes from the very shallow fact that, differently from Mr Davenport and Mr O'Hare, Mr Ellis does not fulfill my personal requirements for the "gorgeous" tag. Yes, I can be *so* shallow. *g*

However, I like very much to read alternative interpretations of Mr Groves, especially the fic presenting him as a good "third" naval musketeer along with Norrington and Gillette. :)

Heh, you can tell how far behind I am with replying...! :-D I guess I'll be up-to-date somewhen around next Christmas!

I can write if I completely zone out on the movie, because - *ducks* - I don't want to be unkind, but he's just not a convincing officer. At least not to me. It's not the "pirate-fangirling" (I don't see it as such, more as paying respect to a worthy opponent), but simply because he looks like an actor in an uniform of the Royal Navy. Of course so are Norrington and Gillette, but with those two - just like with Mullroy and Murtogg - the magic of cinema works. It doesn't for Groves, though, at least for me.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot: for me, his face looks too modern to make me believe that this is a Royal Navy officer of the 18th century.

Mileage may vary when it comes to "gorgeous", but I agree that Mr. Ellis would NOT be among my "top ten men I'd like to end up on a desert island with" list... ;)
Was that diplomatic enough...? :-D

No idiot at all ! On the contrary, I think you hit the nail's head here. :)
