List of all questions DAY 24: "How willing are you to kill your characters if the plot so demands it? What’s the most interesting way you’ve killed someone?"
I'm very, very, very unwilling to kill my characters. Even the villains! If you're in one of my stories, your life is relatively safe. Relatively - if you feature in a ghost story, death before ghostdom can unfortunately not be avoided.
Most interesting way of killing someone... I think that award has to go to the murderer in
"The Secret Of His Success / Silent Companion".
DAY 25: "Do any of your characters have pets? Tell us about them."
Pets are tricky to write. One's easily tempted into writing "cute", and that can distract from a story. But I've written some pets:
Lord of the Rings: Erestor has his three crows, but I don't think they really count as pets. I've written a short story lifting the secret of their origin; it's a perfect example for the very weird ways my brain works at times. Not only is the crow talking, no - he's talking in rhymes. Read it here:
"CAW!" Pirates of the Caribbean: Lord Cutler Beckett's pugs!
Original writing: James used to have a dog as a boy (called "Dog", as he never listened, anyway), Thomas has two cats, and Captain Dawe has three dogs of unspecified origin.
