Recommended pottery. No, really!

Regular readers of this blog will know how fascinated I am with Nelson-memorabilia. Nelson-in-a-jar, Nelson-umbrella-stand - I’ve seen it all.

One of my favourites is still Nelson-and-two-officers-ride-to-the-zoo-on-an-elephant, though. That one was made by artist David Cleverly, whose work I really like for its humour and 18th-century-touch. Plus ( Read more... )

The elephant is really fantastic, but *hangs head in shame* I admit that I'm sort of fond of "Nelson and his sow"... yeah. I know. I promise not to buy it.

I love Darwin and the Dodo. These are all so wonderful, and beat my grandmother's collection of coquettish Southern Belles.

Haha! My grandmother had some terrible figures on her sideboard: Bambi, a German Shepard (one ear missing), some hideous kitschy angels and a collection of owls. Oh, and a pair of Spanish flamenco dancers made of plastic. Wooooooooooh! :-D

The admiral and his sow, Emma?! Good gracious! Well we can't have that! His coat simply doesn't match her skin at all, I'm afraid he will have to leave.

These are absolutely delightful.

Haha! It's so wrong on sooo many levels, but I can't help but being fascinated by it. And some of the animals he made are really lovely; the cats and dogs for example. I like the 18th century type of pottery, and he manages to be inspired in his work without simply copying. Good work!

I'm scared to say this, but - yes, I think he does. *groans* I really shouldn't like it, I know, but it's one of those weird things which fascinate me because they are so wrong that they're right.

The elephant, on the other hand - genius. Now we need "Nelson and the crocodile" - THAT would be all kinds of awesome!

Aren't they! Good thing I don't have money; I'd probably spend a fortune on them. :-D
