Well, this is depressing

I have always clung to the encouraging idea that social progress marches ever onward, and that bigoted beliefs will slowly die with their demographic. That the majority of haters are aging out of the population, to be replaced by new generations of voters who are either more liberal minded, or completely uninterested in upholding absurd bigotries. Certainly the four thrilling victories for marriage equality on Tuesday night supported that idea. But in the midst of all the cheering, a sour note:
"Students from Northwestern College share why they are voting yes tomorrow for Minnesota's amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman."
These are not the old, bitter geezers I picture voting against equality, with decades of bigotry ground into their bones by their upbringing. These kids should, by all lights, be on the right side of history. But here they are, brainwashed by Northwestern's "Christ-centered education," and so *happy* about it! Look how thrilled they are to deny other people equal civil rights! Big grins for the camera, all wholesome and Midwestern and all-American, and full of ignorant, hateful nonsense ("our future depends on it?").
I could cry. "Christ-centered education" has a lot to answer for.
