New Z Developments

In addition to becoming the Prime Minister of No, Z has been going through a recent language explosion. In the two weeks since we've been back from San Francisco, Z has suddenly started spouting all kinds of new words. Duck, cow, cat, ball, a fair attempt at milk (comes out "lk")...Aaron, what am I missing? It seems like every day he's got a new one. We've had to start really watching what we say around him, as he's all to likely to try and repeat it!

And speaking of new words--this time last year I couldn't get a hat to stay on this kid for love or money. I'd put the hat on, he'd pull the hat off, ad infinitum. Now, he not only wears the hat, he puts it on himself and proclaims, "hat!" In fact, he won't be separated from it, and wore it to bed last night.

On the less fun side, tantrum behavior has ramped up a lot lately. Mostly we can ignore them...he gets distracted pretty easily, so they don't last long. The problem is the ones that are fed by hunger. He gets into a cycle of too-hungry-to-calm-down, too-angy-to eat, so ignoring it only makes it escalate. The problem is coming up with an intervention that a) gets him to eat so he can calm himself down, but b) doesn't reward the tantrum. We're still working on that.
