My Valentine's Day Rant

Feb 15, 2008 13:44

Man, if there's one thing that's depressing, it's reading LJ on Valentine's Day. Seems every other entry is someone posting about how much they hate Valentine's Day.

I bet this post won't make me very popular )

holidays, valentines day

*laughing* Alright, you make some good points! I admit, I was getting on board with the whole Valentine's-Day-hating thing yesterday, but you're making me rethink things. :) Anyway, I'm all for celebration, in whatever form it takes!

Exactly. I celebrate whatever I can get away with. :D

Related to complaint #3

Does not everyone love someone? Valentine's can be romantic for sure. But what stops someone from giving all their loved ones (not romantic but familial or friendly) something special? I'm thinking next year Sean's definitely getting something from me for Valentine's Day!

And yes, it can be a very good day to concentrate on how much you love your husband too. Especially when you've got a little one, the couple things can go out the window for a long time! ;-)

I made a valentine for a girlfriend and she found it a bit strange since for her it had only ever been celebrated within her family to cherish non-romantic familial love.

Cool! Definitely the kind of thing I was thinking of.

My son's getting a Valentine from me next year (he's 2 now, I think he'll appreciate it more at 3!).

Re: #3. Sorry. I've not been able to be cheerful about Father's Day ever since I lost mine fifteen years ago, and I don't see a single thing wrong with Scrooging holidays that make a person unhappy.

The happy people will have a much easier time ignoring the unhappy people than vice versa, trust me.

You were saying something about hormones???

Nope, this one's got nothing to do w/ hormones. Holiday boycotters have annoyed me since I was a teenager.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry. I was referring to mine, which are decidedly starting to show the effects of menopause, not yours.
